Can tell you about the last day of competition, as Travis Tryan must have “ice” in his veins to make the run he did with Koontz, and then go back in the box and make another great run with his partner. Besides George Strait himself bringing the biggest applaud of the day, the largest applause might have been for Jake Barnes and Clay O’Brien as they seemed to be the local town favorites, and as one person said “Legends of Roping in Texas”. As Headers were trying to make great times with quick catches, they were often pulling the steers so hard that many were rolling in the sand not giving the heelers the shot that they were wanting. To this point, one of the most discussed points of the final day was when DeLaCruz and Begay in the 2nd round were no-shows, and their steer was released without a run, only to see DeLaCruz to return 2 steers later with another partner, so this left many wondering where the other half had gone. Great event, great crowd, and the fact that George and his crew puts on a great show, and had many wounded young veterans in attendance to meet the ropers and all. Ever get the chance, enjoy sitting on a wooden bench, and enjoy a great day of roping.
