Spring Cleaning
Now that spring is here in most of the country, it's time to start thinking about spring cleaning. Now for some of you in the southern regions, you probably never stopped roping or checking your equipment as it was pretty much nice enough to rope every day this winter. But, for those of you that put the equipment up for the winter and never touched it you might want to spend a day getting things ready for the roping season.
Saddles and Tack
Give all your saddles and tack the once over. Check to make sure you don't have anything that has dry rotted or has a place coming unstiched. Also give all your leather products a good saddle soaping and then oil with your favorite oil. This should keep you going for the season and protect that investment.
Trailers
Check the tread on your tires and the air pressure. If they need to be replaced get them replaced. Nothing worse than have a blowout and having to change it in 100 degree weather. Have your wheel bearings repacked. After a long season of hauling to rodeos and ropings they are probably in need of it. Walk your trailer, looking for lose bolts, rivets or wiring that might be in need of repair.
Horse
Get your horse into the vets and get all their vaccinations and worming. By doing so you will have a healthier horse and they will put on that spring bloom! Have the farrier stop by and take a look at your horses feet. Probably needs new shoes. Many people put their horses up for the winter and neglect their feet. Take the time to take care of your horse and they will take care of you.
There are many more things that you can clean up for the spring but, these are just a few to get ya started.
Until next time, Keep'm of your hocks!
